Renewable Energy in Central Asia Programme

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), GIZ implements the programme “Renewable Energy in Central Asia”. The overall objective of the programme is to enhance the conditions and regional cooperation for integration and expansion of renewable energy sources (RES) at national and regional levels in Central Asia (CA). To achieve this goal, the programme works with all Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan) across four directions. Firstly, the programme works closely with energy ministries and grid operators to create conditions and coordination structure among them, aiming to produce regionally coordinated data and information as a foundation for decision-making regarding the implementation of RES. Secondly, it supports the adaptation of the legal and institutional framework to increase public and private investments in RES at the national level in Central Asian states. Thirdly, the programme contributes to the structural improvement of regional learning of stakeholders in academia in the field of energy systems analysis to assist the integration of RES scientifically and practically into the Central Asian power systems. Fourthly, it endorses capacity development initiatives and measures in relevant institutions for planning and conducting national gender-sensitive information campaigns about the potential of RES, energy efficiency and digitalization in the electricity sector. Overall, the programme has multidimensional and multilevel character, as it cooperates with state and non-governmental institutions at various levels and works in close coordination with other international organizations in CA, particularly with the European Union.      

Qualification requirements

Intern Candidate Profile

• Students, fresh graduates or young professionals currently perusing higher studies (students who have completed graduation or higher studies not more than 6 months ago);
• Study background or experience in the field of Energy, Climate and Environmental Sciences, or comparable study programmes in Social Sciences (Economics and/or Political Sciences);
• Very good command of English is required, knowledge of German is an asset

Duties

Tasks

Next to supporting the daily work of the programme team, the intern will particularly engage in:

• providing translation in meetings, and the translation of programme information and documentation;
• supporting the preparation, implementation and follow-up of workshops, meetings and other events;
• supporting knowledge management of the programme;
• supporting coordination and communication with partners and relevant stakeholders;
• assisting with research activities and studies on programme’s relevant topics;  
• providing financial and administrative support to the team.

Conditions

Details on the Internship

• Expected starting date: July 8, 2024
• Duration: 3 months (with the option to prolong for another 3 months)
• Compensation:  200 EUR net per month
• Duty Station: Bishkek.
