Overview:

In partnership with the prime organization, ACDI/VOCA is currently implementing a five-year program entitled “Agro Trade Activity (ATA)” in Kyrgyzstan funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The aim of the Kyrgyzstan ATA program is to enhance competitiveness of Kyrgyz agricultural businesses while increasing sustainable jobs and incomes and expanding trade with Uzbekistan in the rural areas of southern Kyrgyzstan.

Pursuant to its mission, ACDI/VOCA is seeking for experienced and talented professionals for the Agribusiness Development Expert position. The positions will be based in Osh and responsible for project activities aimed at analyzing opportunities and challenges of agrobusinesses. Candidate should be able to identify major opportunities and constraints of value chain actors, farmers, SMEs and other agrobusinesses, and identify activities to support the businesses with viable interventions and solutions. Knowledge of value chains, agrobusiness landscape in project zone of influence, ability to provide services through trainings and consultations are among major skills required for this position.

Qualification requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in private sector development, preferably with focus on agribusiness or value chain development or other relevant fields
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in in private sector development, preferably with focus on agribusiness or value chain development
  • Must be able to exercise research skills in market analyses and value chain development
  • Must be able to understand the needs of processing companies and consolidation centers and experience working with them
  • Must be able to understand the legislation and regulations related to agribusiness, food processing, food trade and exporting.
  • Strong writing, analytical, presentation and reporting skills.
  • Strong Verbal and Written English skills.
  • Must be able to travel within the regions of Kyrgyzstan.  

Duties

  • Identify and select export oriented agricultural products, analyze the market players of value chain (regional agribusiness firms, producers, cooperatives, input suppliers, others) of selected export oriented agricultural products
  • Analyze weak points of sales/export of agribusiness firms and identify and contract support providers, business advisory services and others to help partners seize opportunities in domestic and export markets; assist partners in upgrading their facilities, adoption of quality and food safety standards
  • Identify farmers producing and supplying raw materials and provide support to farmers through provision of trainings/consultations 
  • Facilitate linkages between value chain actors to increase partners’ sales, productivity and profitability, and improve compliance to buyers’ requirements and internationally recognized quality and food safety standards
  • Design activities and partnerships that expand and/or rehabilitate market infrastructure across communities in KATA ZOI
  • Identify and shepherd through the investment cycle innovative business plans that increase access to markets and services for project communities
  • Design partnerships, and identify needed investments, to strengthen backward and forward linkages between farmers, SMEs, service providers, financial institutions, and end markets
  • Analyze constraints and facilitate relevant and innovative solutions for agrobusinesses
