Search has been operating in Kyrgyzstan since 2012 with programming related to conflict sensitive journalism, promoting freedom of religion, alternative narratives to recruitment, youth and women empowerment in Kyrgyzstan. Starting from 2015 Search expanded its programming into Central Asian region through promoting dialogue platforms between state and civil society leaders on countering violent extremism, sustaining peace and striving for enduring change in the region. Today Search partners with state institutions in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan and cooperates with a broad group of civil society organizations, and expert community to achieve peace and stability in the region.

With the support of the Bureau of Democracy of Human Rights and Labor Search is implementing 24 months Protect to Prevent: Enabling Central Asians to Protect Religious Freedom as a Preventative Approach to Addressing Violent Extremism Project. The project aimed at preventing radicalization that leads to violence by strengthening society’s capacity (state and non-state actors) to reduce discrimination on religious grounds in Central Asia. 

The Project Coordinator (PC) will be responsible for the overall implementation of this project. PC will determine appropriate implementing mechanisms to achieve projects’ strategic goals and objectives: a) to enhance the target states’ capacity to collaborate for the protection of freedom of religion or belief as an effective approach to preventing violent extremism; b) to strengthen youth agency to shift prevailing attitudes from intolerance to plurality among their religious and non-religious peers and elder counterparts.

The PC will report to the Search’s Central Asia Programs Manager.  The working languages for this position are English and Russian.

Search Kyrgyzstan is recruiting Project Coordinator for Protect to Prevent: Enabling Central Asians to Protect Religious Freedom as a Preventative Approach to Addressing Violent Extremism Project.

Qualification requirements

Minimum requirements for this position include:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Social Sciences, Religious Studies, Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding;
  • At least three years of project coordination experience with international NGOs;
  • Proven experience of working on conflict sensitive projects on religion and religious freedoms is desired;
  • Understand core principles of qualitative and quantitative study;
  • At least three years of training and facilitation skills;
  • Understands minimum requirements for running an ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the project and collaborates with Design, Monitoring, and Evaluation team;
  • Experience on peacebuilding projects is highly desired; 
  • Experience on working with high-level regional, national and local state institutions;
  • Advanced English and Russian language skills (written and oral), knowledge of Central Asia languages is an asset.


Your Contribution

PC will be coordinating the strengthening collaboration and cross-learning with key state and non-state actors on protecting religious freedom at the inter-state level, pilot initiatives at the national level for looping back lessons learned regionally, and through empowering youth to shift prevailing attitudes of intolerance to plurality through capacity building for messaging campaigns, and people-to-people engagement both with peers and older generations. 

She/He will work closely with Search staff, partners in Central Asia, civil society organizations and stakeholders to ensure timely and quality implementation of the project. She/He will oversee day-to-day progress of activities and will ensure that the implementation of all projects is meeting Search quality standards, is completed on-time, within budget, and to maximum effect. This includes providing a regular presence with stakeholders and networking contacts with local government, international and local agencies. She/He will also collaborate closely with the Search team (DM&E officer, Senior Analyst, Finance Manager), as well as trainers, mentors and experts working on the projects to ensure the deliverables are of high quality, and delivered in a timely manner. In particular, expected tasks include:

  • Assist Central Asia Programs Manager in overall project implementation according to Search’s and donor’s policies and procedures;
  • As a Project Coordinator provides clear directions, vision, and feedback for project staff and promotes a positive and productive work environment;
  • Invests considerable time to contribute to achieving Search’s overall goals and strategic objectives through delivering quality results of Protect to Prevent: Enabling Central Asians to Protect Religious Freedom as a Preventative Approach to Addressing Violent Extremism Project;

  • Manages his/her time effectively and takes initiative finding innovative ways to get the job done;
  •  Demonstrates self-reliance and resultfulness;

Leadership Skills: 

  • Has the ability to influence, motivate, and enable others to contribute toward the effectiveness and success of Search programming;

  • Maintains consistent and effective communication with all project stakeholders and other involved parties.
