Описание курса/тренинга

Our Fellowship Programmes inspire and equip the next generation of leaders to make a positive contribution to their societies. The Programme provides the opportunity to explore issues of governance, social justice and the rule of law through an intensive four-week series of workshops, discussions, debates, visits and meetings in the UK.

Our Programmes connect a network of over 500 Fellows  across the region who continue to exchange ideas and collaborate with each other. The JST Fellowship is for life.
Applications for our Central Asia Programme 2019 are now open. To apply you must be a citizen of one of the following countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan or Uzbekistan.

Applications will be open 7 May – 2 June 2019.

Please use the save and continue later link before using the back button or closing your browser, to save your progress. Please note the email generated using the save and continue link, may be found in the spam/junk mail folder depending on your email filters.

To apply you must:

  • Speak and write fluent English (preferably having already studied or worked in English)
  • Demonstrate your potential as a leader in your chosen professional field, committed to the positive future development of your country/region.
  • Demonstrate a clear professional interest in the areas of good governance, rule of law and/or social justice and a general interest in all three.
  • Propose an Action Plan idea addressing a policy problem or question of importance in your field of work which you intend to implement on return to your home country, and which will be informed by your experience in the UK.
  • Be prepared to make a substantial commitment if selected as a Fellow: to participate actively in an initial four-week residential programme in the UK and maintain contact with the JST Alumni Network in the long-term.

John Smith Fellows can come from any field, particularly politics, public administration, the media, civil society, law, and business – if a clear link is made to JST themes. The age band of Fellows is normally 25 to 35 years.

Please see our FAQs page for more information.

What you will gain as a John Smith Fellow

The Fellowship is a unique career enhancing and potentially life changing opportunity. As part of the JST Fellowship Programme, you will learn about the UK’s experiences (good and bad) of how a mature democracy deals with social justice and the rule of law in both theoretical and practical terms. The Programme provides a supportive and challenging environment in which to develop knowledge, ideas and leadership skills, and creates important networks and relationships. You will have the chance to make lifelong friendships and invaluable professional contacts. After completion, you will become part of the John Smith Alumni Network which spans over 20 countries and territories, connecting leaders from government, civil society organisations and the private sector.

What we expect from you as a John Smith Fellow

We are looking for future leaders who will participate actively in the UK residential Programme and who will work hard on the development and subsequent implementation of their Action Plan. On completion of the UK Programme, our Fellows make a long-term commitment to the John Smith Trust as a member of its Alumni Network: staying in touch, participating in regional events and continuing to exchange and collaborate with other Fellows, including new intakes.

How to apply

The process starts with an online application form, which you should complete as soon as possible. The online application form will open on Monday 7th May 2019 and close at midnight (UK time) on Sunday 2nd June 2019. Please submit your application as early as possible within this timeframe. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted to arrange a face-to-face interview in the Central Asia region in June/July 2019. Final selection and confirmation of Fellows will take place in August 2019. (Candidates shortlisted for interview will be notified before the end of June.)

If you meet the criteria above and are interested in the 2019 Central Asia Fellowship Programme, please complete the application form.
